There has been declining to tend of physical books nowadays because of the growing popularity of digital reading. There are both benefits and drawbacks to this tendency, as will now be presented.

On the one hand, the domination of books in digital formats benefits both environmentally and economically. First, with the emerge of E-books, no manufacturing paper is required so logging trees in the forest in order to produce paper become the thing of the past. Chances are a lot of resources would be saved and polluting paper are scaled-down. Second, as the increasing ability of E-content is available on the Internet, this spares readers from incurring an astronomical cost to spend on physical books. Students are in a strong position to read a genre of books with small fees or even it is free to access.

On the other hand, the exponential growth of digital reading is not without pitfalls. Reading in e-book reader or tablet, people are subject to be bombarded with notification of the social media. Facebook constantly send the notices which are about their friend’s status or outstanding events that would make them get distracted in the book they are reading online. Furthermore, these day copyright infringement is more rampant meaning that books are widespread without the permission of its authors. That way, the writers would get nothing in return, that would demotivate them continue writing books.

In conclusion, the switch away from paper-based books to the online version is evitable. Despite some advantages associated with this development, its glaring disadvantages cannot be denied.
