With the increasing demand for energy sources of oil and gas, people should look for sources of oil and gas in remote and untouched natural places. Do the advantages outweigh the disadvantages of damaging such areas?
Along with the industrial development in the modern age, the requirement for energy to maintain machinery chains’ activities, especially fossil fuels like oil and gas, increases remarkably. Therefore, searching and exploiting these energy sources from natural regions where human haven’t reached is an understandable choice. While I accept that this choice can sometimes have a positive effect, I believe that it is more likely to have a harmful impact.
On the one hand, searching for fossil fuel in faraway land have some undoubted benefits. The ability to catch a new power source in those places is higher than in regions where people have been living since the dawn of human civilization. Human often chooses the delta with productive soil and convenient irrigation system while the places where fossil fuel can be formed easily are usually special topography such as the margin of two continent.
On the other hand, I personally think that the disadvantages of this idea outweigh its useful impacts. Firstly, if scientists find a brand new energy source and industrial investors start a mining project on an undamaged native land, the natural environment that has maintained there for billion years is totally broken. To be more specific, the whole ecosystem are off balance with the inevitable loss of endanger animal and plant as well as the probable negative effects on the surrounding. Furthermore, instead of keeping exploiting traditional fuel, experts can develop other technique to generate power like nuclear power system or renewable energy system to meet the increasing demand for power. Those directions may need a huge investment at the first stage, but it ensures a stable development for human in the future thanks to not affect the environment in a negative way.
In conclusion, I believe that although seeking for energy sources of oil and gas in natural places may have some beneficial effects, its negative impacts are more significant.
