The line graph illustrates US and Japan in terms of the unemployement rate from March 1993 to March 1999.
Overall, the unemployement rates of the two nations fluctuated over six years. Although the two trends were opposite, while Japan saw an increase in t he unemployment rate, this rate generally decreased in US.
The unemployment rate in Japan always remained above 2.5 % and the rate of the Japan in most years was lower than of US. From March 1993 to the year 1994, the Japanese unemployment rate gradually increase. In the June 1996 to March 1998 period, the unemployement rate saw the sharply increase. The unemployment rate reached the highest point in about June 1998 and lightly decrease through out the remainer of the period.
Over the same period, the unemployment rate in US varied significantly. Through out the whole period, the unemployment rate dropped rapidly by over 2% and falling to approximately 4.8% in the end of the year 1998. In March 1993, while Japan had the lowest point of the unemployment rate, the figure for US was at the highest 7.0%. The difference between two lines tended to decrease and nearly came to zero in about June 1998.
