Topic: Some people believe that children's leisure activities must be educational, otherwise they are a complete waste of time.

Do you agree or disagree?

Essay:

Whether every activity that children pursue in their free time must be related to education has aroused much controversy. Whereas many people are convinced that educational activities will bring about a lot of benefits, I would argue that children should be allowed to do what they want in their free time.

To begin with, leisure time activities can improve a student’s mental as well as physical growth. In other words, these activities enable children to develop their cognitive and motor skills. For example, playing some sports like soccer, volleyball, cricket, etc gives children a precious opportunity to acquire certain qualities such as leadership, a sense of responsibility, and teamwork skills. They can also maintain their fitness level and build a healthy lifestyle through these activities. Moreover, engaging in activities like singing, dancing, and painting helps children discover their inner ability and strength, thereby making good career choices.

Secondly, taking a break and having fun is a part and parcel of life, particularly for children. Free-time activities make it easier for students to relax and refresh from stress resulting from lengthy study hours. These short breaks between study periods can motivate children to concentrate on their academic activities and study more efficiently. Furthermore, children’s creativity will be developed while there is no obligation or pressure from others. That is to say, even play with water and sand can be effective to a bright inquiring mind.

In conclusion, it is not hard to see that leisure activities benefit children immensely. Therefore, I strongly recommend that parents should not interfere with how children use their free time and allow them to do what they really have an enthusiast for.
