In many countries today insufficient respect is shown to older people. What do you think may be the reasons for this? What problems this cause in society?

My essay:

Nowadays, old people have been neglected in many countries and cultures. There are many reasons for this unpleasant work. In my view, it can make negative consequences in society.

These days, families are small and nuclear and have less contact with relatives, especially the elders. Also, parents are busy and do not spend enough time to teach values and morality to their children and teenagers. These children do not learn how treat older people. In addition, old people have fewer physical abilities than youths. Many of them are depend on youngers financially and physically to support. Given the current bad economic conditions, elders have been viewed as a drain on family. Some families believe that their elders block their progress. What is more, today’s society teaches young people to be more impatient and self-centered and money is the first priority for them in life. Ethics and values do not important for them. They lose respect for the older persons while elders should be understood.

These disrespects and ignoring elderly people can make problems. One of these issues is that elders feel disillusioned and lonely. This makes them depressed and more likely to cause heart disease. When middle-aged persons see elder’s future, they may concern about themselves future loneliness. Then, society will move towards aging. Also, values and morality may be removed completely from the society and people will have meaningless life and they do not have anything to the next generation.

To sum up, old people not to be forgotten because ignoring them can make bad effects on society.
