Please review my essay. i really need your help

Many young people today know more about international pop and movie stars than about famous people in history in their country. Why is this? What can be done to increase young people’s interest in famous people in the history of their country?

It seems that the young nowadays take more interest in international celebrities who work in the entertainment industry rather than their national historic figures. I think this is due to the fact that history lessons are indeed mind-numbing. On the other hand, global pop singers and actors provide the young with a sense of enjoyment and relaxation. Solving this problem involves changing the way of teaching history.

The traditional methods of teaching history are somehow not interactive. By this I mean, students just receive information from their instructors and internalize it instead of using their lateral thinking skills to analyze historical events and discuss it with their teachers. In fact, this pedagogical approach has shown its downsides. Students always feel that they are learning history for exams and cannot express their own perspectives about a historical figure that they learn about. By contrast, young people know more about international singers and actors because those celebrities usually live an extravagant lifestyle, which might be the dream of many of them so that they love to delve into those people’s life.

Dealing with this problem involves changing the methods of teaching history. To be more specific, I think students should be allowed to autonomously learn about historic figures, which means they can choose to learn the aspects of the famous people in the history of their country that they enjoy. For example, if students are curious about the childhood of a historic figure, they should be given the guidance of their teachers and learn it at home, then they can discuss it with their teachers or classmates. This can make the history lesson more active and exciting, thus, giving students more motivation to learn more about historic figures.

In conclusion, I believe the reason why many young people know more about international celebrities than their national historic figures is that the current methods of teaching history are passive and ineffective and the young tend to fancy the lifestyle of international stars. Fortunately, I think this problem can be addressed by tailoring the way of teaching history.
