Topic: Some people believe that nowadays we have too many choices. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?

Today many people think that we have an overwhelming number of choices in everything. I agree that a world of options can let us be bewildering when deciding on simple things. However, there are still many aspects of life that we have no or minimal choice.

In developed countries or big cities in developing ones, we no longer have limited but straightforward choices like the older generations on daily needs like foods, drinks, cosmetics, tv programs or more complex things like household appliances, furniture and many things else. Producers from everywhere never stop working on creating new products and new experiences to satisfy their consumers’ needs and earn more profit for their business. Besides that, the power of the internet and globalization have reduced the distance between almost any products and their customers. For example, after some clicks on a laptop, anyone can take a look at multiple advertisements of new trending shoes and order them to be shipped to their front door via Amazon or eBay. However, a great abundance of choices does not always save our time but can lead us to a state where our energy wears off from making comparisons and decisions.

In contrast, living in the least developed countries means “too many choices” is an unrealistic phrase. According to some research by WHO, at least 2 billion people had to use drinking water sources contaminated with feces on a global scale in 2017. Unicef also reported that the majority of the population in Eastern and Southern Africa is devoid of access to essential sanitation services, let alone have choices to other fundamental human rights. In other words, the lack of basic living conditions can expose those people to preventable health risks and reduce their options to live happily in those areas.

In conclusion, while I partially agree that part of the world population has a huge number of options in most areas of life which can lead to confusion, there are still many individuals who have to live a life where having options to choose is already a luxury dream.
