Some individuals hold the opinion that art education is an indispensable part of a child's academic journey, while others argue that it is a waste of valuable time. I firmly support the former belief.

On the one hand, there are two main reasons why some people think that teaching art in school is unimportant. Firstly, they argue that a majority of students do not go on to pursue careers in the arts after completing their education. As a result, the skills learned in art classes such as drawing and sculpting will be redundant in their future careers. Secondly, in most countries, only certain subjects such as math, science, and literary arts are tested in post-primary and university entrance exams. This makes people believe that time that is spent on art classes should be better allocated to such subjects which are deemed more significant to students’ academic success.

On the other hand, art education can foster several valuable qualities and skills. Through art activities, children can experiment with different materials, techniques, and styles to create something unique and original. This allows them to explore and hone their creativity and imagination, both of which are highly sought-after in the workforce. Additionally, art education encourages children to think outside the box and approach tasks in innovative ways, enabling the development of critical thinking and problem-solving skills. For instance, when creating a sculpture, children must consider factors such as weight and material in order to ensure its stability, make several experiments and finally decide on the best solution.

In conclusion, while some may view art education as a frivolous use of time due to its perceived lack of practicality and potential to serve as a hindrance to subjects deemed more important, I believe that it is crucial in promoting imagination, creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills, all of which are vital for success in life.
