My essay:

Through exchanging information in an interview, employers form an initial perception of their applicants. Since such perception is of great importance, some assert that performing well in an interview is the best way to land the desired job. I somewhat disagree as there are several factors that are just as significant.

On one hand, there are certain necessary qualities employers seek in candidates that can only be discovered through a one-to-one interview; one is the ability to communicate effectively. In particular, recruiters usually ask how candidates will behave in a difficult situation such as dealing with an unpleasant colleague This demonstrates how well they can interact with coworkers. Another is enthusiasm to work. Applicants are often asked questions regarding the information about the company they apply for. By answering thoroughly, they can show that they are passionate and interested in the work.

On the other hand, there are also several qualities that can give applicants an advantage. First, years of higher education mean professional knowledge from experts in the field. So those with academic qualifications are often considered highly educated laborers who can learn things quickly, have innovative thinking and solve difficult problems. Second, if workers have worked in the field before, they can develop practical skills and real experience. These transferable features allow an easy transition into the role, thus immediately benefiting potential employers. Therefore, work experience and a decent academic degree can put candidates in a favorable position.

In conclusion, while employers can look preferentially at applicants that show good interpersonal skills and a strong passion for working for the company in the interview, they also are likely to favor those with relevant work experience and proper academic qualifications. Thus, merely acing in an interview cannot guarantee a good employment position.
