IELTS speaking part 1: friend topic

Have you got a lot of friends or do you prefer to have just a few good friends?

I would rather have just a few good friends. I think it would be a hassle to have a lot of friends because they usually want to talk to you about every detail of what they do in a day, and also want to meet up once in a while. But I do not really fancy any of that. Actually, I think it is just a waste of time. And I prefer to stay at home reading my favorite comic than spending hours listening to their complaints or the love for their crushes.

Do you keep in touch with any childhood friends?

Yes, I do. But I don't know if I should define her as a friend as she is more like a family. Even though we are not connected by blood, we have known each other since we were born as we live next door. And it is the same case with our mothers. They left their hometown and settled down in BMT city together about 30 years ago.

Do you find it easy to make friends?

It is really easy to make friends, but it is hard to have a long-term friendship. As a child, we can easily find a friend around our home or in school, or even on the Internet. However, we are likely to not keep in touch. For example, I had a really close friend in middle school, but as we moved to different high schools, we did not contact each other anymore. Another reason is when people have a job, marry or have a child, they become too busy and have no time for their friends.

How often do you see your friends?

As I only have one friend, and she is currently living in another city only coming home on a work vacation, I could say that I can see her a few times a year, normally in the New Year. You may know that in Vietnam, we have a 3-week national holiday, called Tet, and I meet her every day of that 3 weeks as we live next door.
