Although there is a lot of translation software available, learning a language could still be advantageous. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Despite the convenience that translation software offers, learning a language can provide more benefits. In my view, I strongly agree with this.

Firstly, acquiring foreign language skills can offer certain benefits that translation software can not. To be more specific, it enables people to communicate smoothly without being disrupted and saves time. For example, when communicating with local people, visitors depending only on translation devices have to frequently check or listen to the meanings on the devices, which might be taxing for them and also peeves the person they are communicating with because the conversation has to be ceased sporadically. Of course, this eventually prolongs the talk and wastes the time of both persons. Undoubtedly, if people can speak the language of the place that they travel to, they are more likely to not only carry on conversations effortlessly but also save much more time. Therefore, knowing the language is still more beneficial.

To add further credence to my assertion, I note the negative impact on people if they tried to solely use translation devices to communicate. Supposedly, if the devices have certain issues, then, they can find themself being mired in awkward or difficult situations. As an example, sometimes the translation software cannot translate precisely; in fact, they might give a wrong or objectional message, which may spark misunderstanding between people. To clarify this, the word “Ðá” in Vietnamese has many different meanings; it can mean a rock, a kick, or a piece of ice. So when a foreign visitor who doesn’t know the language asks for some ice in a restaurant, they may accidentally ask for a kick, if the software translates mistakenly. Another example is that it would be very unfortunate if a traveler gets lost in an exotic place and their translation devices have run out of battery. Therefore, by solely depending on those technologies, people may encounter various problems when traveling to an alien place. And this proves the importance of knowing the language.

In conclusion, I completely agree with the notion that learning a language has more perks than merely using translation software. This is because it helps people to communicate easily and saves much more time. Additionally, it also helps people avoid countless problems when they traverse to a place using a different language.
