Task 2: Many countries import large amounts of food from other parts of the world. Is this a positive or negative development?
In today’ modern world, the consumption demand is increasing day by day around the world, hence, numerous countries import a huge amount of different sources from nature to meet the citizens' needs. In my point of view, this is a negative development which can lead to potential harmful problems later in life.
On the one hand, it is perfectly beneficial for those countries to ensure the standard of living to inhabitants. This means that some countries that are in poor agricultural land and natural disaster areas such as Japan, Africa need to import sufficient foods for entire citizens in each country, which highly motivates people to work and devote their efforts to the development of the countries. Moreover, imported food from the exported countries like Europes also bring a huge profit for these countries in the economic field as well as boost the co-operated relationship between both parties.
On the other hand, merely as there are two sides to a coin, there are also several drawbacks of it. If there are more and more imported food miles in many countries, the fuel consumption for delivery is rapidly rising. This releases into the environment numerous hazardous gas emissions including a greater carbon footprint that makes pollution as well global warming and other disasters. Besides, in recent years, many people are likely to consumps some foods that are under chemical treatments or GM crops, which will cause potential diseases that can harm human health.
In conclusion, although there are great deal of benefits from importing large amounts of food from other sides of the world, the governments of these countries should set out some policies to eliminate potential disadvantages appearing in the near future.
