Society is based on rules and laws. It could not function if individuals were free to do whatever they wanted. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Society can only prosper with the establishment of regulations and legislation. Therefore, some people argue that it cannot function if individuals have an unfettered right to do everything they want. I completely agree with this assertion.

On the one hand, society is based on regulations and legislation for several reasons. First, they help increase the standard of life in society. As an example, in most societies, citizens are obligated to pay taxes. And this money helps governments construct infrastructure, schools, and medical facilities, which all raise the life quality of citizens. Furthermore, rules and laws also help ensure citizens’ safety. the law about wearing helmets, for instance, helps individuals alleviate the possibility of injuries when driving motorcycles. Therefore, it is safe to say that effective rules and laws are the fundaments for a thriving society.

On the other hand, society would not operate if individuals were entitled to do whatever they want. There are two primary rationales for this. First, a society without rules will suffer from chaos. To demonstrate this, if every individual had the right to go through the red traffic light or go on any lanes they want, then there would be tremendous chaos on the streets. Second, a society without rules may suffer economically. As individuals are genetically wired towards comforts, if there are no rules compelling students to attend school, then they would not go to school. As a result, this would lead to an uneducated workforce, which severely hampers the economy of society.

In conclusion, I strongly agree with the idea that rules and laws have pivotal roles in society. This is because first, regulations and legislation help guarantee the standard of living of citizens. Second, they also help protect the citizens. As well as this, I also contend societies would not function if individuals have the freedom to do everything they want, given the fact that without rules and laws, there would be chaos in society. Additionally, a society’s economy will be seriously constrained.
