The tradition of families getting together to eat meals is disappearing. What are the reasons? What are the impacts?

Today, the image of families gathering around for meals is on the verge of being gone for good. This is triggered by two main factors and has profound effects on individual members of the families.

To commence, it is worth noting the causes of this trend. Firstly, working and studying prevent them from eating together. These days, parents that are breadwinners have to work all the time to meet deadlines or get paid for overtime. As a result, they resort to eating out at a nearby restaurant for ease of getting back to work quickly. In addition, children’s leaving home for higher education causes the atmosphere at home to get less cozy, which makes the others no longer feel like getting together to have meals. Secondly, it is the modern lifestyle that affects eating habits. With the development of convenience shops and dining establishments, people find it unnecessary to buy ingredients, cook, and layout the table. Instead, each of the members buys ready food himself or herself and then eats alone.

When it comes to the consequence, adverse effects on both physical health and mental one are discernable. Since families don’t have a chance to gather for family meals, they cannot tell each other some daily stories or share happiness or sadness. This leads to the stress suffered by an individual and the distance between member and member in a family. Besides, no meal is of better quality and tastier than one cooked at home. Those eating out too often run a risk of having digestive problems and food poisoning or even ending up suffering from cancer of the stomach and bowel.

To summarize, each generation’s giving priority to different things and the convenience of eating out are the reasons for the disappearance of eating meals together, which brings on negative outcomes. To avoid those unsatisfactory results, people should put family meals first
