Nowadays the way many people interact with each other has changed because of technology.
In what ways has technology affected the types of relationships people make?
Has this become a positive or negative development?
Changing the method of communication is considered to be a major topic of concern in today’s world. Technology has changed the way people make friends and the type of relationship in the modern world. From my perspective, this will be a negative development though it has several benefits.
The recent development of technology has converted relationships between people into virtual relationships. In other words, people tend to make more online friends due to the steady development of modern gadgets. The fast development of technology provides people chances to get in touch with people in every part of the world via social media. As a result, youngsters nowadays have at least one online friend and their friendship was built through online games or some app. For example, recently, most young adults have had a romantic relationship with their partner through an online dating app.
The change in the method of interacting due to technology might be considered as a negative development. Virtual relationships might be the root of interpersonal skills lacking. It is undeniable that interpersonal skills must be practised and improved by having face-to-face communication with people. However, online relationships make people stay at home and glued to their phone chatting with online friends hindering the improvement of social skills such as negotiation and public speaking. In addition, the development might provoke sexual assaults. Adding friends with people on social media, bad people can send some pictures that must not be sent to users and this is a kind of sexual assault, Snapchat is a popular example.
In conclusion, changes in the method of interacting can lead to a change in the type of relationship between people. The change may be beneficial in some aspects, though this is a negative change that must be mitigated.
