The graph below shows the average number of UK commuters traveling each day by car, bus or train between 1970 and 2030.

My essay:

The line graph compares the counts of workers who commute to work each day by one of three means of transport: buses, cars and trains. Data point is given from 1970 to the present day, with a projection to 2030,

Overall, the three transport are predicted to have a higher total use in 2030 than in 1970. Most of that increase is attributed to car commuters, as the rise in trains more than offset the drop in buses.

In detail, there were a total of 11 million commuters in 1970, nearly half of them riding cars (5 million). And the number using buses was double that of trains, 4 versus 2 million. Over the first decade, the totals remained about the same level as the usage of the three almost plateaued. After that, commuting by cars is highly positively correlated with by trains. They both had upward trends during the next two decades, with cars going up by 2 million in 2000, twice as much as the increase of trains, 1 million. Then both plateaued through 2010, and another rise is forecast, ending with 9 million for cars and 5 million for trains. In contrast, bus usage has steadily declined through 2020, equalling that of trains in around 2014, at 3.5 million each. It is predicted to continue to drop, with a final value of 3 million in 2030. The total will be 17 million in 2030.
