In the past, people stored knowledge in books. Nowadays, people store knowledge on the Internet.

Do the advantages of this development outweigh the disadvantages?

Nowadays, the prevalence of the Internet enables people to preserve their humankind’s knowledge more conveniently and efficiently, instead of storing it in books and other documentaries. In my opinion, the benefits of this shifting outweigh its own drawbacks.

Some proponents of knowledge stored in books suggest that this method ensures the accuracy of the content. The reliability of the information on the Internet might be not guaranteed. There are a variety of unverified articles posted on a regular basis, making it difficult for users to distinguish between true facts and false news. For example, one of the most popular websites which students usually search for their assignments is Wikipedia. However, there is a diverse array of false information on this site in comparison with the officially scientific results. In contrast, when it comes to reading books, people always have confidence in product reliability because most of the contents in books undergo a thorough checking process.

On the other hand, in terms of keeping information, the Internet brings three significant advantages. It is undeniable that the Internet allows people to store information in larger quantities more books. In addition, less space and fewer bookshelves are required. More importantly, saving knowledge on the websites helps people reduce the effort and time when it comes to finding out any relevant materials thanks to the search engines. For example, by typing the keyword in the searching box, the computing system automatically sorts the types of e-books and singles out a piece of information needed just in a few minutes. Furthermore, keeping knowledge online reduces the deteriorating levels of external factors like termites and weather, thereby permitting people to pass on knowledge to other generations.

In conclusion, despite the merits of preserving knowledge in paper books, there are clearly pertinent reasons to support the storage of digital books. Besides the bigger capacity, it may save time and human effort when searching and reduce damage to the minimum.
