Nowadays more tasks at home and work are being performed by robots. Is this a negative or positive development?

Recently, there is an increased number of tasks automated by robots. Presumably, this development entails both opportunities and threats for humankind. However, the opportunities seem to be more significant than the risks.

Regarding the risks, evidently, there are a variety of occupations that have been putting in jeopardy because of the ever-growing widespread use of robots performing human tasks, which can be demonstrated in the case of people whose jobs are cashiers and bank tellers. In fact, they are being intimidated to be substituted by robots and other technologies. More disturbingly, it is believed that in 2050 the majority of bank tellers will soon be replaced by robots. Therefore, this tendency has crippling repercussions for people’s livelihood in the foreseen future. Furthermore, the over-use of these robots can perniciously incentivize the lethargic lifestyle of human beings. A quintessential example is that nowadays there are a variety of robotic innovations that aid people in household work. And because of this convenience, many people do not feel the need of doing household chores anymore, which might insidiously beget laziness later on.

Conversely, humans can be benefited immensely by having robots perform their dangerous and mundane tasks. As an example, construction workers are predominantly perceived as a job that presents many risks. To clarify this, it is not uncommon to see that those workers intermittently have accidents in the workplace. And some of them might even have to compromise their lives on a daily basis to perform their tasks. Therefore, by using robots to take charge of these risky tasks, people who have jobs like construction workers can mitigate occupational accidents. Additionally, the increased use of robots supplanting humans in certain tasks can help accelerate the economy. It is widely acknowledged that robots tend to perform more precisely and efficaciously, thus, ultimately helping to enhance the overall performance of a company and correspondingly the whole economy.

In conclusion, although the fact that there is a growing number of tasks undertaken by robots provides certain drawbacks, I still believe that its advantages are more noteworthy. This is because it helps alleviate occupational accidents of certain jobs and supercharge the economy.
