Some people believe that holding a major international sports event is beneficial to a country, while others disagree. Discuss both views and give your opinion.

Some people feel that hosting a primary international sport can bring benefits to a country, whereas others think it only entails more disadvantages. My view is that the downsides of this are overshadowed by its benefits.

First, If a globally-concerned event takes place in a country, then there would be a tremendous number of tourists visiting the nation. And this is favorable for its economy. Seemingly, it is common to see that once such an event happens, the price for accommodating and other services will rise astronomically. In fact, in an important period like this, tourists are normally willing to pay at an outrageous price without much hesitation, which helps turn huge profits for the local tourist industry. In addition to this, if a country organizes the event successfully, it will create a positive image in foreign citizens’ views. As a result, more people would get to know about that country, and possibilities are they would travel to the country or even invest in it.

Conversely, with a large number of tourists coming in, the host nation might face the problem of pollution. One main reason is that there would be an enormous amount of garbage discarded by those tourists. And this, when combined with the lack of responsibilities, will imminently pollute the local environment. In fact, there is a number of tourist attractions around the world that are being polluted by irresponsible tourists, including Ha Long Bay.

In conclusion, opinions are divided into whether hosting a major global sports competition is beneficial to a country or not. I personally believe that although this might pose a threat of pollution, the benefits provided are more significant. This is because I think a country can protect its environment in such a special period of time by making the law about the environment more severe.
