Some people say that advertising is extremely successful at persuading us to buy things. Other people think that advertising is so common that we no longer pay attention to it.
Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

While some people think that advertising has successfully convinced people to buy products, others perceive advertising as a commonplace aspect of their lives, so that they no longer pay attention to them. I am in support of the former.

One primary reason why many people think that advertising can no longer draw customers’ attention is the fact that it is too prevalent, to the extent of becoming a nuisance for many people. As an example, while watching TV, most people usually feel disrupted and peeved because of the dense frequency of commercial breaks. Another example is online newspapers, in fact, they are permeated by advertisements, which makes the reader uncomfortable, when reading. With this pervasiveness, advertising only exacerbates people’s hate towards it instead of creating good brand images. This explains why many people try to avoid it.

Conversely, others believe that advertising is surprisingly successful at tempting people to buy products. There are two possible explanations for this. First, commercials have become more and more captivating. Today savvy advertisers routinely use modern technologies and techniques to enhance the appearances and qualities of the products they promote in order to pique customers’ interest. Second, products endorsed by celebrities usually attract a large number of customers. In reality, many companies hire famous people to carry endorsements for their products. And since these people have a huge influence on the public, they can cleverly nudge people to buy their products.

In conclusion, opinions are divided into whether advertising is still effective at persuading people to buy products or not. My view is that although advertising seems to be a mundane and banal part of people’s lives, it still impacts customer’s shopping behaviors. This is because I suppose people tend to trust the product that they are familiar with rather than an alien one.
