In some countries young people are encourage to work or travel for a year between finishing high school and starting university studies. Discuss advantages and disadvantages for young people who decided to do this.

The option of taking a gap year before enrolling to educational institution are favored by a large number of youngsters in certain parts of the world. While critics say that this may bring no benefits, I hold onto the belief that taking a gap year facilitates the development in young people’s skills and knowledge.

It is understandable why people are advocating for not going to work or travelling before enrolling to tertiary education. When it comes to travelling, the biggest problem that high school graduates have to face is the finance since those cannot afford the expenses of the entire trip, as a result they ask their parents to pay for their trip. This is unacceptable, especially in developing countries, people prioritize their income in living rather than travelling. Moreover, high school graduates can just have part-time job if they want to go to work, which obtain a low income and also these jobs provide employees with low professions in working styles and skills. As a result, those who apply for part-time job cannot gain any knowledge.

Despite the afore-mentioned demerits, taking a gap year is beneficial for those who graduate from high schools. It is obvious that having a job catalyses them in attain valuable experiences as they can put what they have studied into practice when they take their courses. In addition, going travel facilitates them in acquiring useful skills such as live independently or cooking. For instance, a person who travel to America without his family will enhance his English communication and also know how to live on a tight budget.

In conclusion, as far as I am concerned, I strongly support for taking a gap year as its benefits are absolutely outweigh the disadvantages.
