Nowadays animal experiments are widely used to develop new medicines and to test the safety of other products. Some people argue that these experiments should be banned because it is morally wrong to cause animals to suffer, while others are in favour of them because of their benefits to humanity.

In recent years, the practice of testing new products on animals has been widely used to experiment with new medical treatments as well as assess the safety of other products. Some people believe these experiments should be prohibited since it is unethically acceptable to cause pain in animals, whereas others support them as they are beneficial for humanity.
To start with, people who support these experiments think that experiments using animals has played an essential role in developing new medical therapies and other products. Recent research concluded that nearly every medical invention in the last few decades has resulted from research using animals. For example, the discovery of insulin (the cure for a diabetic), is the result of the testing in which dogs had they pancreases removed. Furthermore, experimenting on animals give us an idea of how people react to the products. Some animals share the same set of organs with the human. According to a recent study, chimpanzees essentially resemble human in terms of DNA. Thus, because these animals are biologically similar to humans, their reactions are therefore the same.
Conversely, those who oppose these experiments think that animals are humanely abused when being tested. Recent research showed that animals being tested in laboratories are commonly subjected to forced feeding and inhalation and prolonged periods of physical restraints. Therefore, it is morally wrong to experiment on animals. Additionally, although the products pass animal tests, it does not mean that they are safe for people. Stress on animals in laboratories can lead to certain ailments and tumours, which in turn disrupt the functioning of their organs. Consequently, the result of these experiments can be misleading. Thalidomide, for instance, was tested on animals and proven to be safe. However, these drugs had disastrous impacts on people who used them.
In conclusion, although some people assert that it is reasonable to test on animals, I believe it is inherently unethical and experiments involving this activity should be banned as they violate the animal right and the results of these research are sometimes untrustworthy.
