Topic: Should people be allowed to drive cars in downtown areas.

In this day and age, vehicles have played a crucial role in our life, especially cars, so whether people should be permitted to use them in city centre or not is a hotly-debate topic that often divides opinion. From my perspective, cutting down the number of cars to reduce the negative effects for people is a must.

On the one hand, cars are believed to bring about a whole host of demerits. Firstly, the ecosystem is on the verge of excessive pollution due to the emergence of a mass of four-wheel vehicles. The smoke that their engine releases every day not only be a factor that makes air pollution but also results in a variety of downside for human's health such as lung diseases. The further drawback that utilizing cars would bring is that over-using cars is one of the elements leading to traffic congestion, which regularly drives people stressed and easily loses their temper owing to waiting for long hours, as well as under harsh weather. Furthermore, the number of accidents can be minimized by the reduction of using cars; therefore; people will feel safe and have more square when they are in downtown areas. Finally, it is obvious that people see themselves not paying too much cost for petrol, which assists them to save money for other activities.

On the other hand, some skeptics claim that cars do bring merits for people because of their user-friendly. Particularly, they protect human from weather and contaminated environment such as rain, sunshine, and dust. So comfortable is that cars would give people room to converse with each other and shelter from inclement weather. Only by driving cars can people commute faster from one place to another, giving rise to save the amount of time.

To sum up, it is not necessary to ban cars but reduce using them. In terms of protection, some actions should be taken immediately to tackle this hot issue. In general, individuals and government should take everything into consideration and raise more awareness of both sides of this remit.
