The role of a women is not an easy task. This is especially the case when a

women faces an evolutionary change in her life. Having the responsibility to nurture, to be

strong for her family which means keeping morals and values as well as portray her

discontent and restlessness that make life very difficult. The three poems have similarities and diferences since they are being isolated from the natural or real aspect of a women, emotional and intellectual attributes that determine an individual’s actions, reactions and misjudgments.

The author Luis Bogan in “Women” has no exposure to life relating to the femenine quality of their spirit and soul. In the poem females are careful in regard to their independent interest as an alternative to satisfy the vulnerable burning sensation of their deepest feelings. They are forced to accept a humiliating defeat in a gray environment that as a woman nourishes her family with love daily to keep it together. Females were not allowed to have contact with a lot of people at once. Since they don’t have the opportunity to listen to flattery words instead they become isolated, depressed wanting physical freedom to satisfy their inner soul. The women remain temporarily neglected sometimes become difficult, stiff and cold since it is considered submissive. Therefore, they provide themselves love and kindness, which men do not want to be part of it and refuse to express affection. It seems women was not allow to visualize people around them or to experience love without limits. Their love has an intense desire that do not mean anything to the loved ones. The poem explains “women” themselves to a certain extent of masculine gender that exchange thoughts about women; those thoughts the poem shows contradict and disqualify themselves by imposing self containment and self denial by not accepting that they have their own rights to choose and make own decisions in their life without being dependent on others.

The use of tone and expression used in the poem by Linda Pastan “Marks” is unexpected because it shows the feeling of dissatisfaction that results when expectations are not realized from a typical housewife. The poem describes a housewife in which the husband one of the most important man besides her father at her life estimates her values as a woman. The man is grading his lovely wife giving her an excellent grade for the evening meal she prepared for him; he also gave her an incomplete grade for the clothes the women arranged for her husband. He gave her above average grade in bed, which means she was not giving herself to the relationship during intimacy. Her son was telling her she was just an average mother that means she was not trying to get closed to her son; she was not doing any effort to get involve in her son’s activities. Her daughter thinks there’s only a pass or failing grade in life and she judge her mother by giving her a passing grade; However, the mother is frustrated of being a full time mother therefore she decided to change. The woman have the feeling of not being appreciated by playing the role of a full time mother and housewife; she is not being recognized as a woman, her qualities and the challenges she face daily to maintain a balance of harmony in her house. It seems as a woman she was feeling empty since it is a difficult task to maintain the family together; specially when the family do not recognized her effort and time she is giving to her loved ones.

The author Nikki Giovanni describes “Woman” as a poem that follows a path of dependence to independence where a woman is trying to find her inner self from whom in reality she is. In the poem the woman wanted to be strong she focuses a lot on the man while each thing she tries requires the man’s support; during the poem it seems man is the essential foundation of her identity. The woman tries her best to conform herself to the man’s actions, she tries hard to pretend a happiness environment. She is completely unable to keep doing the same over and over; each time it gets more difficult to face his resistance. It seems woman attempt to mold their identity to that of the man’s display her strong dependence on him; the different suggestions for the identities are her ideas which he rejects all the time. She continues to change for him, trying to find something to suit him, each identity had a bright change that describes her dependence on him. The woman looked so hard for a way to coexist with the man, it is surprising that she recognizes her own independence. Part of the understanding of “Woman” comes from understanding the role of the male in this poem; the male does not necessarily seem to be arrogant or overwhelming his power since there was no indication of abuse in the poem. If anything the man seems to neglect the woman by saying no to all her ideas and by not appreciating her companionship. It is difficult to understand the submissive part of a woman since it is not common to happen; unless woman are in love then they are willing to do everything even to under estimate to make the other person happy. Sometimes against themselves woman make big changes in their lives in order to succeed in life at any price; which it is sad since the individual is not being unique as a person and has the right to express their emotions as well as feelings.

Conclusion

The three poems have something in common since they all related to each other by the fact that being a woman is not well considered by the people they care the most. The frustration and impotence a women must face when dealing with those aspects of life are not easy to confront specially when your loved ones are making you feel worthless. Although, being a woman is not easy since by nature you are fragile as well as wanting to be strong like a man take difficult challenges and responsibilities; since now days some of the similarities they face do not have any difference educational wise for both gender. This is illustrated in three poems: “Women”, “Marks” and “Woman”. In “Women” Bogan the writer is highly specific about women’s deficiencies. In this poem women are limited, put in the wrong position due to their warm-hearted and considerate qualitities and out of her true feelings “Marks” addresses the frustration of a typical housewife in a monotony life situation. “Woman” is a poem that focuses on a woman’s searching for her identity, her inner soul and independence. It was sad to realized that some women are being under estimate, making them feel worthless, are being used and neglected by the people that means the world to them. As a women God gave us a gift to bring life to this world and man don’t understand the significance of being a women and the issues we have to face during life. Women it is considered to be the most precious human being and needs to be appreciated as well as being recognized to satisfy her needs. The three poems have similarities and differences since they are being isolated from the natural aspect of a woman, emotional and intellectual attributes that determine an individual’s actions, reactions and misjudgments.
