In many cities the use of video cameras in public places is being increased in order to reduce crime, but some people believe that these measures restrict our individual freedom. Do the benefits of increased security outweigh the drawbacks?

In the present day, there are more and more security cameras installed in public places. Many people believe that this will help to decrease the number of criminals while others consider it a freedom restriction. Personally, I hold the view that the benefits of those cameras are more significant than the drawbacks.

On one hand, the use of video cameras in community areas will be likely to bring inconvenience to people as they may feel that that are being watched all the time. For instance, if a person has an unexpected accidents outside which their ugly images are shown to others or even posted on the Internet, that would make them embarrassed and affect negatively on their mentality. Moreover, for those who are introverted, cameras in public spaces can discourage them to go out since they are shy of being watched.

On the other hand, cameras in public places bring a lot of benefits to people, especially in reducing crime. Anyone who intends to do something bad like pickpocketing or even sexual harrassment will have to beware of the cameras around as they can be served as evidence to impeach them to police. Additionally, traffic accidents can also be solved more quickly and transparently thanks to security cameras since every actions on roads are filmed already.

In conclusion, while there are some drawbacks to people when cameras are installed in public places, I still suppose that their advantages overshadow the disadvantages ad those cameras can help us a lot in life.
