In many countries, very few young people read newspapers or follow the news on TV. What do you think are the causes of this?

What solutions can you suggest?

News are often very informative. But many people of this generation do not have a habit of following the news through newspapers or TV. This essay will discuss the causes of this problem and possible solutions for it.

These days, there are separate dedicated news channels on TV unlike few years ago. These news channels do not have much content to air all day. Hence they end up covering trivial news for hours together. This often spreads boredom in the viewers. Succumbing to the competition, the news channels try to sensationalise a news unnecessarily. For example, a news channel in India sensationalised the costume of Indian Prime Minister worn during his visit to the international summit instead of reporting about the discussions held during the summit. In addition, newspapers often sell negative news more than inspirational positive news. People often feel depressed reading a newspaper. A research showed that about 70% people who read newspaper as the first activity in the morning were having negative outlook for the rest of the day. Hence people may have considered to stay away from the news sources.

One possible solution would be to air new on TV only at stipulated times instead of entire day. In the olden days news was aired twice a day and would cover important highlights only. The newspapers can start the front page news with positive stories and report less of crime stories on the first page. Newspapers can also consider science and technology news to cover in the first few sheets.

In conclusion, people often avoid news fearing boredom or negative feelings towards news reported of late. Many people would resume back to reading newspapers and seeing TV for news if the quality of news improved.
