Learning about the past has no value for those of us living in the present.
To what extent do you agree or disagree?
I once heard from some that mind is like a monkey. He doesn't know how to sit in one place. One is often caught in thoughts of past or future and living in the present may seem like a difficult art to master. But that doesn't mean thinking about past or planning future is a waste of time. Hence, I strongly believe in the values of past.
Firstly, let us see why past is important to us. Our experiences can give us huge lessons which enlightens us and helps us lead a better present. For example, once, my boss was in a bad mood and seemed very upset. I tried to strike a conversation which backfired with some yelling. So, now I know i need to keep quiet when he is upset. People learn from the mistakes of their past relationships. These preachings of the past keep us from repeating our mistakes. We teach history to our children in an attempt to educate them about our country's past.
In addition, our past gives us a whole lot of memories to cherish. As in, almost everyone has few childhood memories which make them happy. We preserve and treasure today's moments as memories of the past. Photographs are a classic example of our past captured and re-cherished. There maybe few memories of people in the past which we would never like to let go. For example, memories of our parents are the only way we can live with them forever.
Hence, even though dwelling too much into the past can cause worries, we can never push aside past as waste. Our past guides our present and our future.
