Some people think that learning a secondary language is necessary to live in a country where that language is spoken. What is your opinion?

Nowadays, many people learn various languages in order to enhance their cognitive skills. A few people are of the view that learning a secondary language is crucial for living in a country where it is a native language. Learning a local language of another country, in my opinion, is beneficial because it helps in communication and obtaining employment.

A local language of any other country enables people of different origin to communicate effectively and easily. This is because people will understand quickly what a local person of that country is trying to say and answers her without much effort. As a result, a person of different nationality will be able to save time because the message will be conveyed without any difficulty. Immigrants who move to Canada, for example, learn French, which is its native language, as it assists them in communicating with local citizens there.

When employers hire people of different nationalities, they usually prefer those candidates who can understand, write and speak in their local language. If an employee is unable to understand the language which most people speak locally, it will not only result in wastage of time but also the financial loss for the organization. The reason is that local citizens will most likely take advantage of those, knowing they are not well-versed with their language. Chinese companies, for instance, offer jobs to only those candidates who are bilingual or can speak English.

To conclude, whenever a person learns a local language of different nation, she becomes able to communicate efficiently in that country, and her chances of receiving employment increases. I strongly believe that all people should try to learn a second language as it not only benefits in communication, but also improves the cognitive ability of a person.
