Ielts writing task 2 topic: It is neither possible nor useful for a country to provide university places for a high proportion of young people. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

It is said that providing access to university for a high proportion of youngsters is not only impossible but also not useful . I completely agree with this view.

On the one hand, it is impossible that the cost of building and running universities for a high percentage of young people is too high. Governments could invest their money in the hospitals or public transport system rather than new universities. Furthermore, entry standards would have to be lowered, due to the level of students are likely to be different. As a result, the universities have to make it easy for youngsters to achieve the entrance grades, which makes the standard of university education be lowered. In Vietnam, for instance, there are many universities constructed annually, therefore, almost students could be enrolled without caring about their academic achievement.

On the other hand, it is not useful because the distribution of workforce is not equal among various job. In many countries of the world, it causes any damages for economies such as high unemployment rate or high crime rate. In addition, the labour of some fields such as construction, works or nurses needs to practice some necessary skills in work environments to get ready for future jobs. For example, If nurses just study at a university without being trained a lot at the hospitals, they will not have enough skills to take care of patients in comparison with the nurses working at the hospital frequently.

In conclusion, I strongly believe that governments should not spend their national budgets on providing universities for a high proportion of youngsters.
