When designing a building, the most important factor is intended use of the
building rather than its outward appearance. To what extent do you agree or
disagree?

It is thought by many that the intended use of a building is crucial than its outward look while others are opposed to this view. I completely agree with this view and strongly believe that people prefer usage instead of its exterior design.

Firstly, the main reason of buying an office or a flat in any plaza is to utilize it and not to display others. That is to say that people pay money for utilizing the space effectively as its exterior design may be impacted without hindering its utilization. The Sky Tower in Dubai, for example, has recently sold expensive flats even though its outward design is not superior, according to most experts. The reason of higher prices is the ample space which the owners need. As a result, buyers may pay higher market value if the space can be utilized efficiently.

Another key reason is that owners may find it difficult to maintain or renovate the outward design of a building. This is because people who own a flat or an office in it can have control over the space owned but not on its exterior. In other words, external design of it can be devastated with the page of time and the owner of a single flat or floor may not be able to renovate it. For instance, the heavy rain devastated the appearance of The Burj Khalifa in the UAE in 2011. Residents of the individual flats have renovated their flats but could not revamp its external design due to ownership issues.

In conclusion, the external appearance of a building is considered less important as compared to its intended usage. I personally believe that its utilization is pivotal than design because people pay for using the space, and one finds it extremely difficult to revamp it in case of its damage.
