Letter Writing

Please review a motivation letter

Hello everyone,

I'm applying for studying at courses of Czech language for foreigners provided by a Czech university.
I need to write a motivation letter. Below is what I came up with.
As I'm not fully confident in my formal writing skills, and as I've seen several people asking to review their motivation letters on this forum, I decided to ask that somebody reviews mine aswell.
So, please, give me some adequate criticism on this one. Thanks!

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing this letter to support my application for studying at the preparatory Courses of Czech for Foreigners at MUP.
I am sixteen years old and I’ve just completed secondary education in Ukraine.
The main reason for my enthusiasm towards this programme is my goal to receive higher education in the European Union, where it is of greater quality and wider international recognition than in my home country. Czech Republic is a particularly attracting country to me. Out of all European countries I’ve been to, it seems the most pleasantly peaceful and quiet, whilst offering quality education at no cost, if in Czech, and therefore being the best variant among those I can afford. I’ve searched for language courses and decided in favour of those at MUP: it is a prestigious university in Prague, so in a year of studying at the very heart of your country I will definitely develop certain command of the language.
Currently I know three languages: Russian and Ukrainian, which are both native to me (Russian being ethnic), and English, my command of which is, according to my IELTS Academic score of 8.5 / 9, on the level in the middle of “Very Good” and “Expert”. I consider linguistics to be one of the strong points of my intellect, and I prefer to study languages in real practical use rather than learning them by rote. This year, I’ve taken part in the yearly all-Ukrainian students’ contest (the so-called olympiad) in the English language and progressed to the final, national round. I possess a sci-tech translator’s diploma and I’ve been doing some freelance translations from time to time. I’ve also already begun studying Czech by reading fairytales and watching films, though I feel I’ll need to dive into Czech society to progress dramatically.
After finishing the courses, I plan to study Journalism at the Charles University in Prague. That profession attracts me because it both embraces work I consider myself to be potentially good at and usually offers an opportunity to work part-time and out of office. My current study experience is just 11 years in a Ukrainian school, though I will certainly work hard to extend it significantly.
Please consider my candidacy for the offered courses.
Thank you very much for reading this letter.

Yours faithfully,
Serhiy Ponomarov
