The line chart compares the proportion of Australians born in the UK, Asia, and other places in the world from 1976 to 2011.
Overall, while the percentage of Australian people born in the UK decreased, the figures for Asia and other countries in the world rose over the shown period. It is also notable that the total percentage of newborn Australians increased despite being a little fluctuated.
In 1976, nearly 15% of Australia’s population was born in the UK, the figures for Asia and other countries were about 3% and 11%, respectively. At that time, new-born babies accounted for nearly 30% of the population of Australia. After a decade, while the percentage of people born in Asia increased to 5%, the figures for the UK and other regions dropped to around 10%.
By 2011, people born in Asia captured the highest proportion of newborn Australians after a constant rise from 1986, climbing to 15%, compared to about 5% for the UK and about 13% for other parts of the world. New-born babies increased their share in the total of Australia’s population to around 33% after hitting the bottom at approximately 12% in 1986.
