Please rephrase "so on that note"

Hi,

Would you rephrase the sentence below that I underlined? That's from a book but I don't know how I should understand it.


These extreme Communist Colombians have decided that the Utopian dream can not thrive at the Banana Bungalows and so they must burn it down.

So on that note:

Corrine and Jennifer have arrived from Sweden to stay for two beautiful weeks.

I think the only way to rephrase this is " and so changing the subject completely...."

It is used to introduce a new subject or move on to a different part of the same topic.

The example above looks to me as though the speaker had something unpleasant that he needed to say or had to say and then wanted to move on to something more pleasant. It can be used in this way or to move the subject forward.
