More than half of the obese students answered "Yes,we are overeating", and about 47%answered "no".
My problem is that I find "we" strange and sounds odd, don't know why though. Also, I'm proofreading the text for someone else so I try not to change a lot .
Hopefully, you can help me punctuate it as it is....

Words like "yes" and "no" are direct speech, and need to be paraphrased in indirect speech.

eg More than half of the obese students agreed that they were overeating, and about 47% answered that they were not.
