(a) I have decided to choose work assignments closer to home as I am tired of spending too much time travelling to work.

(b) I have decided to choose work assignments closer to home as I am tired of long commutes to work.

  • "too" is a bit odd there; I don't think many native speakers would say that.
  • ' so much time' sounds better and, with the rest of the sentence, still carries the meaning of "too much".
