Employee Morale
Managing employee morale is very different during times of economic difficulty than during times of prosperity. When times are tough, one thing is certain. Employees are scared. They are worried about their futures - both with the organization and on a personal level. Everyone is under stress.
With all the stress occurring, people tend to act differently than their norm. Some employers, for instance out of desperation, may resort to threat tactics and other de-motivating approaches in an effort to increase performance and profitability. Lion is doing better than most of the companies, but we are aware about future pressures to maintain a healthy financial outlook and keeping our employees proactive with their jobs.
Efforts to manage morale during down times must start with the recognizing that what employees need during times of uncertainty can’t be addressed by traditional approaches to improving morale.
High morale in a company tends to lead to better employee retention. This reduces costs in recruitment, application, hiring and training processes; when these expenses are reduced, that money can be better budgeted to help grow the company.
