Abortion: The Choice Should Be Hers

Another day passes by, another new set of choices that affect your life in the smallest ways. Did you know that the littlest things you decided have the potential to affect your life in the grandest of ways? Life is full of calls and turnings. But you cannot exist without the choices of someone else, and you make many serious choices yourself. I believe people should choose their own path and their own future, including abortions. I believe in pro-choice. First of all, woman should have the rights to control her body. Secondly, there should be exceptions in cases where the mother's life put in danger. At last, there are a lot of women who cannot afford the baby because of financial problems.
But to the contrary, Pro-Life argue that abortion is not option. They are insisting that pro-choice is an escape from the harsh reality. They are against abortion because abortion can be very dangerous to the health of women. Pro-life insist abortion should not be considered as the only way to get out of a pregnancy because the woman may experience psychological damage due to aborting the child, and the woman is ending a human life. But, what if there is a no safer alternative to abortion? What if the mother is in danger because of the child? It is really easy to be thought that A woman who is aborting a child cares only about herself, but a lot of mothers has little choice but to terminate the child. I will discuss about the reasons.
To begin with, every woman has the right to make any decision that involves her body. The problem begins with whether it is the woman’s choice to keep or terminate her pregnancy or the government’s choice. When this problem happens, a woman loses her right as a person. Most women argue about this issue, but if you look at it, it is the woman’s body, and she should do with it as she pleases. Therefore, I believe that if a woman, under the right circumstances, should be able to make her own choices in life and not be influenced by family or the government. If the government can force a woman to continue a pregnancy, what about forcing a woman to use contraception or undergo sterilization? No governments can force anyone to give a birth to a child and raise a child. It is invading women’s rights to freedom and the right of self-determination. Pro-choice supporters say that it is not the government’s responsibility to protect the unborn children, and women should have the right to determine whether or not they continue with their pregnancies by choosing to have an abortion. Women’s rights concerning abortion were brought to the forefront during the court case of Roe vs. Wade in 1973. This court case gave women the right to abortion under the due process clause in the 14th amendment of the United States Constitution. (Frohock 5) It is this ruling that brought about the split and differences of opinion of the way abortion should be handled among the American population.
In addition, there are many women in the world who are claiming their own rights. And I want to borrow her words, Julia guillard, who is a prime minister in Australia also has been fighting for women’s rights. She has been claiming for women’s right for abortion. she was concerned that abortion rights was back on the political agenda in Australia. To borrow her words, she strongly asserted “If we do not allow woman abort, it is an attack on human rights and in particular on women's reproductive rights.” (Murphy)
Furthermore, Abortion is actually commonplace. It is estimated that about 30% of Canadian women have at least one abortion in their lifetime. (McKay 3) Following Canada, abortion should be made legal all over the world .
Secondly, there are few cases beyond our control. And especially this essay will discuss about when abortion is related to someone’s life like the mother who is giving a birth to a baby. It should be legal where the existence of babies is putting the mother’s life in danger. What if a doctor aborted a baby to save the mother’s life? Those who oppose abortion put the life of unborn babies above the rights of women. In fact, abortion was illegal in Canada until 1969 when the Canadian Parliament passed a law that allowed abortion in certain circumstances to protect the “health” of the mother. Abortion is allowed when it “has by certificate in writing stated that in its opinion the continuation of the pregnancy of the female person would or would be likely to endanger her life or health” (Justice laws)
There are critical moments in life that you have to choose something, and the abortion is one of the brutal moments. It is something that the mother does not really want to, but have to do for her own life.
Lastly, financial problem should be considered. Government cannot support all poor parents till babies are completely grown up. Teenage pregnancy would be the best example. How many youngsters, for instance, would opt to become parents giving up on many chances such as obtaining a degree raising a child alone? Raising a child will cost a lot of money. And government do not support youngsters enough money for raising a child. For some of them who has no money to raise a child, there is no choice but abortion. At its worst, the administrative crackdown on abortion doctors will be more expensive and dangerous, forcing women with unwanted pregnancy to go abroad if they are rich, and to unlicensed doctors if they are poor, risking greater health hazard. (Lowen) Let me bring you into a movie If these walls could talk. This movie was set in 1950s. By that time, women’s rights were not that well protected. Claire was a widow who has lost her husband just a month ago. And she did a careless thing that she had a sex with her brother-in-law. She never knew that the affair threatens to become this serious. But she got pregnant by her brother-in-law. She agonized for few days and finally decided to undergo abortion in order not to hurt her late husband's family. However, abortion was strictly illegal at that time. She tried many ways to get aborted but trustworthy abortionist was too expensive, so she could not afford the cost. Claire finally manages to abort, but dies not long after that due to hemorrhage. What if the abortion was legal so she could make a choice for her life? It would have ended in a better way. It is better now that women have a place to go where abortions can be performed cleanly and with minimal risk.
In conclusion, the reasons why I am pro-choice are firstly, I believe that the government should not be able to control what a woman does with her body. By granting women the right to choose, this does not permit her to kill, but to decide what is best for all persons involved. Second off, In cases mother’s life is in danger due to the fetus, abortion should be legal. Finally, for people who cannot afford the baby because of financial problems. I believe abortion ought to be legitimate. We sometimes have to be at a crossroad and have to make a decision. And we should choose how we shall live by ourselves. We choose to use the term “pro-choice” because we are not pro-abortion. I understand the concerns of those who oppose abortion, but instead of eliminating it altogether, we should create standardized rules and enforce them as much as possible. I know that abortion has it’s pros and cons, but we should trust that women are capable of weighing out each factor and choosing what is best.

thanks..
