Please point out my mistakes.Thanks



I attended the Katia Labeque and Marielle Labeque ‘s “Labeque Sisters ‘s ’ on Friday, March 20, Hong Kong Cultural Centre Concert Hall. The concert consisted of 4 songs arranged in two sets with pianos and Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra.



“Le Corsaire: overture, Op, “Concerto for two pianos in D minor”, “En blanc et noir” and “Symphony in D minor” are composed by different composer, and therefore, they performed different style. However, I thought these 4 songs have common point -All of these songs are passionate .They are all struggled to increase emotional expression and power describe these deeper truths. Also, they are focus on melodies and themes, as well as an explosion in the composition of songs.



‘En blanc et noir’. impressed me most. It is composed by Claude Debussy. He composed a set of three pieces for two pianos. I think the title(“On Black and White) implied the two colours of piano keyboard before. But after listening this song performed by Katia Labeque and Marielle Labeque, I could also find that there was also the diametrically opposed emotions which left no scope for shades of nuance or colour. As the song was so enjoyable, I tried to find some information about it. Someone thought it is a scented piece plenty of incorporeal poetry. At that time I recalled that I had read a book said that music is similar to poetry. Music can express it’s emotion through voice, and poetry, also can show it’s feeling by recitation. Moreover, music and poetry are needed to be imaged so we may have different interpretation for the same songs or poetry. I think ‘En blanc et noir’ is like a poem. It carves in relief the inexhaustible versatility and fertile imagination of the master of the musical Impressionism.



Generally, Katia Labeque, Marielle Labeque and Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra.performed very well. I had to keep an eye on the motion of the conductor, Edo de Waart. His motion is infectious. I believe conductor is very important for the orchestra. He is not simply a metronome, but also can arouse the sensibility of the bandsman. (Actually some people had criticized the conductor of my orchestra’s motion is stiff. When I see the motion of Edo de Waart, I just thought what a good conductor needs. But I think may be my orchestra is not mature enough and therefore, he choose to use a clarify signal. It can be understand. )



The hall was crowded. I think the hall was full because Katia and Marielle Labeque are famous pianists. Generally the hall was quiet, I thought I could listen the music in a good environment. However a bandsman seems drop some things. It made a voice when the song is ongoing. It was undoubtedly that the performance was not perfect because the drop some things carelessly.



All in all, it was a very positive experience I’m glad that I went to a professional concert this time. This concert was meaningful that I not only enjoyed the sweet music, but also taught me a lesson. This concert report also helped me introspect again what was my disadvantage that I did not know before.
