The bait for investor or who cares about immigration law

Enthusiasm around the amendments for the immigration law, which provides simplified provision of residence permit for foreigners investing in Latvia, is still growing on. This week arose another version of this law: it is sufficient for the foreigner to invest 10 000 lats in the company, to employ3 persons and within the year to pay the ta? of 6500 lats for getting the permission to go into the country without problems. There is another option to obtain real estate in Riga or in its environs for an overall amount not less than 100 000 lats or 50 000 lats in other region. However, "BN" interrogated experts reckon that in reality no bonuses will not substitute the state with people who do not care for at all.
"Russians are not the bandits with machine guns"
Jevgenij Tihonov, the trade counselor of the Russian Embassy in Latvia:
- The capital is invested in more beneficial country, where there are minimal political risks. Latvia laggs behind in this aspect; moreover, it has a negative rating of investment attractiveness. Russia takes the 7 th place in terms of investments into Latvia. So, the concerns about the slogans "Russians are coming!" are totally groundless. I would say the following: we have nothing to do in your country! People from Russia will not fall for the bait like the cheaper real estate. Especially due to the increasing cadastral value and tax levy on dwelling space.
In case with the cash from Moscow one can choose any point on the world map and go there to buy real estate. So, why it should be the property in Latvia? There is no need to think that Russians have bought all real estate in Jurmala, it is not an aggressive investment flow, it is an unexceptional tourists' interest in the "New Wave".
What exactly might be attractive in the Baltic countries? Greatly undervalued assets of enterprises. However, they have got certain guarantee against losses. Obstacles are continuing to be put in Latvia for Russia’s perspective transport and power industries. We are not allowed to participate in tenders for the construction of nationally important sites, allowing to the market exclusively members of WTO (the World Trade Organization) or firms being registered on the territory of EU.
We say: wake up, the Russians have never let you down! But this little works ... It is also naive to believe that the right to travel in the Schengen area will be sufficient reason for Russians to lin up near the Latvian Embassy. This is a definite plus, but not system. But idle talks that the amendments threaten national security, will disincline to come to you. You speak: the legalization of illegal gains? Ladies and gentlemen, money does not smell! Moreover, do not make an image of Russian gangsters with machine guns.
"What Moscow wanted to buy here, she has already bought"
Andrejs Vilks, criminologist, former chairman of the Security committee of Riga City Council:
- It is hard to explain what the president wanted to tell, when he rejected the bill. He seemed to believe that here would flow dirty money. Then we have a security service, having sufficient resources to track the movement of capital of unknown origin or the activity of undesirable persons. There is a treaty on legal assistance with Russia. This is not idle talk, but a real tool. Furthermore, we have access to the database of Europol, which quickly can help find any information. Latvia is already not in the background of Europe for a long time.
