Some people think rich countries should help the poor countries by giving money directly. Others believe that there are other effective forms of international aid.

What is your opinion?

It is certainly true that the gap between the haves and the have-nots is increasing these days. To tackle this issue, some people believe that the affluent should offer the financial aids to the poor nations, while others argue that there are a number of ways to assist with aid efforts. Personally, I am of the opinion that money is not an effective remedy to deal with problems in the target countries

In fact, money just handles short term needs. This leads the poor countries to rely on the rich ones and make their self-reliance impossible. It is obvious that if the financial aids are directly provided to the under-developed nations, they will be spent on wrong projects or wrong purposes. Ironically, in several cases, a great amount of money goes into corrupt governments’ pocket or inefficient administration who just thinks about their own benefits instead of helping their people. For those reasons, in lieu of donating money, it is crucial that other assistances should be offered.

As far as I am concerned, education aid would be of great help for the poor nations to have the sustainable development in future. By providing a good educational system, a great number of talents who make significant contribution to the development of the country will be “born”. As a result, thanks to them, the target country will possess a solid foundation which is considered as a driving force behind the nation to prosper. Furthermore, advanced technology should be also invested in all key sectors such as health care, infrastructure or agriculture in order to address the urgent needs. For instance, with the development of technology applied to the farming, farmers are able to protect their crops from bad weather, diseases or insects; therefore, food productivity would be raised as well as the quality of food would be also enhanced.

In conclusion, I am convinced that investing is better than donating because it enables the under-developed countries to become more independent, and in the future they may have adequate resources to stand on their own feet
