Please let me know.

I want to describe that Darren wakes up not necessarily because his wife is cooking but just while she is. Is the sentence correct like this:

Darren wakes up as his wife is cooking in the kitchen.

Could I say this, too:

Darren wakes up as his wife cooks in the kitchen.

If yes, which one of these are more accurate to what I want to describe?
