It is more important for school children to learn about local history than world history. To what
extent do you agree or disagree?

There is some divide of opinions about the learning of children and many people believe that it
is more essential for them to study the history of their own country rather than the history of the
world. I completely disagree with this because I think that world history is just as important and
both of them should be taught at school.
From my perspective, every child should know about their country or region history. First, by
having some knowledge about what happened in the past children would appreciate their
current peaceful life more and develop a sense of pride in their country. For example, if they
know about the sacrifice of the soldiers they will realize that the life they are having today was
paid by the life of earlier generations and they should value their lives more. Second, through
lessons in school, they also learn about the cultural values of their motherland. As a result, they
will have an understanding of traditional events and be more responsible for maintaining those
core values.
On the other hand, no one can deny the vital role of studying world history. With how the world
keeps changing and globalization is the current trend school children need to broaden their
horizons and study about other regions. By doing that youngsters will know about how the world
around them is affected a lot by other countries. Another reason is that children can learn about
different traditions around the world which will help them to get an overview of many races that
living on the same planet as them.
In conclusion, both local and world history have an important role in education and every child
should be given a chance to learn them both in order to expand their knowledge.
