ESSAY
Daily use of a computer is believed to harmful to children. Personally, I agree with this view the Prime Minister’s normative decisions think that children’s access to computer should be restricted until an appropriate age.
First of all, I am of the opinion that the use of computers on a daily basis can have many untold consequences on children in terms of their health and all-around development. Considering the addictive nature of computers and children’s innate curiosity to discover this technology, children are highly likely to be engaged in using computers in an excessive amount of time. Thus, this will directly lead to the development of many health problems such as eye strain, short-sightedness or obesity. Furthermore, children can also lose interest in taking part in more productive and social activities. As a result, they will be deprived of living skills and be socially inactive. In addition, through the misuse of computers, which are almost now connected with the Internet, children place themselves in real danger of encountering many false or inappropriate content that can impair the natural development on a mental level.
However, many believed that children can benefit greatly from using computers. Firstly, they can broaden their knowledge in various field simply by surfing the Internet- an inexhaustible source of information. Using computer is also a good form of entertainment for children and might nurture certain skills such as logical thinking. Above all, acquainting themselves with computers, they are in fact preparing for their future since using this medium has become a part of many occupations. Notwithstanding, I believe that children can acquire such knowledge through the use of books or television without facing any unnecessary risks. Moreover, children should focus on developing practical skills before becoming computer-literal. In reality, they can always practice and improve their computer skills late in life at which stage they will be better equipped with knowledge and awareness of the potential harm of computers.
In conclusion, children should not be encouraged to use computers daily. Only after acquiring practical skills and maturity should they be prepared to engage themselves in this medium.
