Essay & Composition Writing

Please kindly help me with my writing essay for ielts task 2

The main purpose of public libraries is to provide books and they shouldn’t waste their limited resources and space on providing expensive hi-tech media such as computer software, videos and DVDs. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?

In the dawn of the age of technology, a multitude of scientific leaps have utterly revolutionized the world, including how global knowledge has become accessible to people all over the world in disc forms. While there are claims that it is much needed to provide only books and cut public spending on digital media in libraries, I hold a conviction that beside such spending cuts are futile for the below motives.

At the outset, there is no disputing the fact that technological resources, albeit quite pricey, bring with them a huge amount of lucrative benefits to community libraries. Indeed, only with a small memory chip can a phone or a tablet hold a massive amount of data which might be written in billions of books, thus giving spacious ambience for library visitors to sit and read. An instance can be that, with the digital resources, the library center in Ho Chi Minh, albeit with a narrow space, has attracted a significant number of readers. Plus, with the assistance of wired labor-saving digital devices and impeccable searching tools, information seekers are now able to precisely address the electronic database at a lightning-fast pace instead of going through the arduous work of browsing shelves in hours. Accordingly, the expenditure allocated for materials in the form of electronic media is integral in the attempt of bringing the best service to library guests.

Besides, it is equally pivotal for hi-tech solutions to be supplied to public libraries in order to encourage people to acquire the habit of visiting libraries. In fact, it has been proved by lots of users who have visual or auditory learning styles that vivid videos and live streams are much more practical and appealing to them in comparison with ordinary written materials. An instance can be that, with just a click of a mouse, billions of gripping educational videos on YouTube channel can be reached to learners, which kindles them in searching for better academic understanding. Books, conversely, are likely to be less mind-grabbing for those who like animated videos, and this follows that the injections of funds for advanced technical systems in libraries are indubitably crucial for educated societies.

As can be seen, it is completely justifiable for the funds subsidized for hi-tech media in books digitalisation progress. Digital resources may never be able to supersede books; nevertheless, under no circumstances should the librarians underestimate how great visitors can benefit from using such modernized methods.
