when a negative expression (such as never, not only , etc) comes before a verb preceded by an auxiliary verb and its subject in a sentence, the auxiliary verb and the subject are inverted. If there is no auxiliary verb, we use DO. Never have I seen such a sight.

Your teacher did not get rid of 'appear'; s/he moved it to a more appropriate position.

It would not be totally wrong at the end, but a little far from the auxiliary 'do'.
