When he screams, does it make sense when i write upon? and were it says frolicked, is it the write tense?

Please woudl you check/improve it for me:

Before I sat down again, I went to grab a book from the book shelf which was in the front room, as I reached for the book ‘Great Expectations’ by Charles Dickens which was a part of my school assignment for my upcoming literature examination. Upon hearing a scream coming from the garden, abruptly I felt a cold shudder running down my spine. I pounced up and rushed outside and opened the garden door. It was Chris. “Phew” I signed with relief as he was I saw Chris laughing hysterically whilst he frolicked about by jumping up and down in the brownish puddles of rain. Seeing me, he splashed water directly at me; the spray hit my face leaving tiny droplets on my lips. The heavy downpour was now accompanied by a very strong wind which started to lift my hair.

Thankyou,
