Please, I need help with essay for MS application. Thanks!

Hi!

Could somebody please check my essay and give me opinion about it? Thanks in advance!

TOPIC: Write one essay (800-1200 words) which includes:

1) Why do you wish to pursue graduate work in Human Genetics?

2)How do you plan to utilize this training? And,

3)Describe in detail a special project or career activity of your, which will help us to understand your interests and talents

I was born in a family of educators. My parents were teachers in high school for children with special needs. From my earliest childhood I had contacts with persons with all kinds of disabilities and I was always asking my self and my parents how did that happen and why were those people ‘different’ from us. That was more than 15 years ago so the only answer I could get then was that there was nothing that could have been done. “It is hereditary disease and sometimes it happens” my parents used to say. Luckily, the knowledge about human genetic is growing very fast. As a result of many researches, now we can use DNA technology for making a diagnosis and in prevention of hereditary diseases. I was always passionate about learning more about powerful genetic tools and research methods and variety of targets where I could apply results of those researches. The courses that I studied during my education at Faculty of *** engineering provided me with skills in several disciplines connected with cell engineering such as: methods of cultivation, immobilization, and genetic and metabolic manipulations of animal and plant cells for various biotechnological and medical purposes (vaccines, monoclonal antibodies, recombinant proteins). By combining my problem-solving way of thinking and engineer skills with knowledge I potentially will gain in human genetics program at *** College I will be able to help and give my contribution in solving many current problems in medical genetic researches. In order to be able to solve these problems I need to deeply understand organization and purpose of human genome and that is why I want to pursue graduate work in human genetics on your college. Genetics is of great significance for human kind and by exploring it we can find solutions for many essential medical epidemics. The diseases are there, written in human genetic code, but now thanks to great progress in genetic field we do not have to wait for them to appear, we can prevent them from appearing and that way we can prolong human life. The fact that I could give my contribution in fight against hereditary diseases has always astonished me. It’s amazing to know that you can control and prevent so many diseases which were unbeatable until recent years.

When such passion gets backed up by attitude and dedication, what follows is a strong clarity and certainty about what one wants to do. I am planning to utilize knowledge that I will gain both in your seminars and laboratory work in searching for new treatments of human genetic diseases. My career goal is to work on production of new diagnostic, prognostic and predisposive tests and methods as well as applying them in practice. Also, the idea of investigating genes especially associated with hereditary types of cancer has always been fascinating to me. I am especially interested in immunomodulators, mechanism of their activity and clinical applications. My aim is to be part of the team that is researching fields of cancer genetic, solid tumor cytogenetic as well as immunology and components of the immune system which can help in cancer treatment such as cytokines, is my aim.

During final (5th) year of studying on my faculty (that is Faculty of *** engineering ) I was accepted to take part in human genetic course on Medical School at the same university. This was one of the great opportunities that helped me gain knowledge both from Mendelian and molecular genetic and developmental biology as well as skills at laboratory work and medical seminars. Apart from theoretical knowledge gained in Medical school, Faculty of *** where I was absorbing knowledge from the textbooks, I was keeping an eye on the domestic and international columns and scientific magazines like “Genetic Engineering News”. I used all those recourses and readings in research for the paper of my seminar which was one of my great achievements during my university age. In that paper I focused on healthcare and the impact that genomic medicine will have on human healthcare. The topic about cancer treatment with biotherapy and immunotherapy which involves therapeutic use of substance of biological origin: viruses, bacteria, plants or mammals was especially elaborated. Also, I researched essence, purpose and limits of cytokines such as: interferons, interleukin and tumor necrosis factor. Another topic I was studying was the human gene therapy which means replacing defective genes in individuals already born with nonfunctional physiological systems.

As I can see from the human genetic syllabus, *** College is providing theoretical and laboratory work in the fields which are especially interesting to me and which will be of the great significance for my career.

You don't have to answer each question in a single paragraph and these are too long - it makes your essay difficult to read. Go through and check your articles and prepositions as these seem to be the main difficulty you have. Otherwise, very nice.
