Please help with phrasing

1 Is it correct to say "nightmare where"?
2 Would you sell off, from, down or would you rephrase?
3 Would you say "detached" or "got detached" or would you phrase this part differently?

I had a nightmare where my friend and I were climb Mount Everest and he slipped and almost fell off/from/down the moutain. I was able to grab onto his arm. He was begging for me to pull him back up but his arm (got) detached from the rest of his body and I found myself holding onto his limb.

Thank you for helping
