Task 1:
The maps illustrate the layout of a student common room in 5 years ago and currently.
In general, the room has not been expanded in its size, with albeit significant new facilities being installed and re-arrangement of some items of furniture in 5 years ago.
In the past, entering from the main entrance, it could be seen an array of appliances and benches on the left edge of the room, including a sink, a cupboard, a microwave and a refrigerator. In addition, most of the room space was occupied by four sets of 7-piece round tables and a cabinet.
At present, the room is able to more satisfy students with good improvement which showed that two round tables were eliminated to make room for a 9-piece rectangular table and a new bench for laptop users. The cabinet was also removed; thereby, an entertainment zone with three armchairs and a TV was set up. The area on the opposite side remained quite the same apart from a new microwave being in the place of a bench. Finally, a new drinks machine was introduced to students adjacent to the refrigerator.
Task 2:
It is sometimes argued that youngsters are specifically recommended to adhere to social norms and traditions. However, I would side with those who believe in individual freedom to behave naturally and show their true color because of several reasons regarding justice.
On the one hand, the ancestors’ legacy of a standard set of moral manners generally is valuable to us because social traditions drawn by forebears from experience educates young generation how to act properly in a particular situation. To give an example, in Vietnamese culture, a young person must take a polite bow in greeting with older people, which not only show respect towards the old but also build strong relations among Vietnamese people. Moreover, the traditions of a country form a people’s national identity. It is essential to preserve our cultural heritage to maintain our identity as a nation.
On the other hand, young people should be at liberty to live their lives for their sake and society’s sake. First, everyone has his or her own individuality which has to be recognized and respected. In the past, the gay and lesbian community was oppressed because people thought it was specially a disease, which became gradually a common practice in some countries. Nowadays, homosexual people still continue experiencing various forms of oppression and discrimination due to this norm. In addition, in light of being treated equally and behaving freely it reduces crime victims' desire for violent revenge against their offenders.
In conclusion, meanwhile there were undeniable advantages from following the traditions, the young ought to have a chance to express themselves freely in order to protect the justice in society.
