Essay & Composition Writing

Please help to review my IELTS essay about Technology. Thank you.

Should human adapt to technology or should technology adapt to us? Is technology making us intellectually weaker or more intelligent?

Nowadays, technology has been embedded in almost every part of modern life, and the existence of technology has always carried with it many questions. The two main ones are: whether humans should compromise to keep up with technological developments or technology should adjust to us; and whether technology enhances or hinders our intellectual ability? In my opinion, technology has been invented to meet our needs, and therefore, it is more likely to adapt to us and to assist our cognitive functioning.

Technology is believed to be created to accommodate mankind’s desires. Take the telephone as an example, in the early days, this device was invented because of human’s need for communication in long distance. The conventional telephone model since its birth, whose basic purposes were calling and sending text messages, has evolved to incorporate more functions such as photo-taking, audio recording, and accessing the Internet, etc. These are believed to be based on the changing needs of its users as we desire to have a gadget that can assist us with many tasks.

The advent of technology, especially with wireless connections has helped us harness our intellect. This can be attributed to a diverse source of information on the World Wide Web. For instance, students can do research for their essays by browsing the Internet and be able to find many different perspectives on a piece of argument. Thus, the students need to develop highly critical thinking skills to analyse the information that they encounter; this in turn helps to improve their intellectual ability.

In conclusion, I believe that technology exists with the aim of assisting human so it is to adapt to us, and to foster our intelligence.
